Patient Advocate Program

Spine surgery involves precision, discipline, and meticulous attention and planning. When future issues can be addressed before they become a major problem, patients experience a better recovery. This includes making it a point to quickly and professionally resolve potential logistic issues, always keeping compliant with necessary medication, and having an advocate who genuinely cares and will guide patients during each step of their surgery. Additionally, it is vital that patients follow advice regarding proper exercise and dietary recommendations.

Our Patient Advocate Program is intended to address all of these factors, preventing risks and optimizing outcomes. Open to all spine surgery patients and particularly effective for those with special needs, this program involves developing a full, comprehensive pre- and post-surgical care plan as well as preventive medicine counseling and risk factor reduction. During the program, patients and their caregivers are actively involved in the planning of their recovery process.

From day one, the Cantor Spine Institute team will do everything it can to ensure your surgery remains a success. Besides dietary planning, we will also evaluate your home to ensure the environment is safe and free of potential hazards. Throughout the process, we will do our best to help you ease back into a lifestyle free of pain and discomfort so you can be up and running and doing what you love again.

The Patient Advocate Program includes the following:

Pre-Surgical Care refers to care given before surgery when physical and psychological preparations are made for the operation, according to the individual needs of the patient. The Preoperative period runs from the time the patient is admitted to the hospital or surgicenter to the time that the surgery begins.

During this initial step, patients are psychologically and physically prepared for their surgical operation.

Our Pre-Surgical Care includes:

  • Coordination of schedules and services
  • Situational health risk assessment
  • Pre-surgery home visit and environmental risk assessment
  • Personal goal setting
  • Preventive medicine counseling and health coaching
  • The Cantor Diet and Nutrition Program
  • Post-surgical planning with family members

In-Patient Care refers to medical treatment that is provided in a hospital or other facility, and requires at least one overnight stay by the patient.

Our In-Patient Care includes:

  • Fully customized in-patient advocacy program
  • Coordination of special needs and specific requests
  • Post-op transition planning
  • Establishing Local Resources for Comfort & Convenience

Post-Surgical Care is the care you receive after a surgical procedure. The type of postoperative care you need depends on the type of surgery you have, as well as your health history. It often includes pain management and wound care. Postoperative care begins immediately after surgery.

This step involves the care received by the patient immediately after their surgical procedure has been completed. The care will vary based on the type of surgery received as well as the patient’s health history. Pain management and wound care are frequently utilized.

Our Post-Surgical Care includes:

  • Implementing pain management after surgery
  • Post-operative health and recovery assessment
  • Post-operative diet and exercise plan
  • Physical therapy consultation and health coaching
  • Coordination and vetting of home health and rehabilitation services

Behind the Scenes Care includes but is not limited to one-to-one review of insurance coverage and benefits, coordination of family resources, and access to our network of highly qualified consulting physicians and therapists.

Our Behind-the-Scenes services include:

  • One-to-one review of insurance coverage and benefits to maximize available resources
  • Access to our network of highly qualified consulting physicians and therapists, including cardiologists, neurologists, pain management specialists, primary care physicians, and physical and occupational therapists
  • Coordination of all appointments with consulting physicians, other diagnostic services, home health agencies and other facilities
  • Research and vetting of local resources for your convalescence
  • Coordination of family resources, including daily updates and information sharing
  • Enhanced availability to patient and family members for problem-solving and answering questions

Housing accommodations, childcare services, and meal delivery are a few of the à la carte services available upon request.

Our à la carte services are available upon request:

  • Ground transportation (rental car or private driver)
  • Flight/ tickets assistance
  • Housing accommodations
  • Meal delivery or private chef
  • Personal security personnel
  • Daycare / childcare services


International Patients

The Cantor Spine Institute has worked with patients from all across the globe, including Australia, the Middle East, Europe, and more. We understand the stress involved in surgery, especially when the patient also happens to be traveling from a foreign country. To ease the anxiety, our team makes it a priority to make these international patients feel as comfortable as possible throughout the entire process. From flight and lodging accommodations to appointment coordinating and family arrangements, we strive to make the process as straightforward and comprehensive as possible.

To further simplify the process and assist with recovery efforts, we enroll our international patients in our Patient Advocate Program. This program allows our team to work directly with patients and their caregivers in developing a comprehensive pre- and post- surgical care plan that includes risk assessments, goal setting, health coaching, diet and nutritional planning, pain management and even meal deliveries and cleaning services.

Insurance and Payment Information


Payment is due at the time of services rendered. All cancellations for scheduled appointments require at least 24 hours’ notice. All cancellations what are less than 24 hours will be subjected to a cancellation fee.

Insurance Information

South Florida Spine Clinic providers are not contracted with many insurances. As a courtesy to our patients, we will file an insurance claim on your behalf after payment is received for any co-payments or deductibles for your In or Out of Network services.
